MANSFIELD, CT — A Washington state man is facing charges after police said he sent harassing emails and stalked University of Connecticut employees as well as several others across the United States.
Robert Cole Parmalee, 40, of Ritzfield, Washington, was arrested by UConn police on Friday and charged with second-degree harassment, stalking and breach of peace months after he first started sending emails to UConn employees, police said in a news release.
According to authorities, a UConn employee first reported receiving multiple emails from Parmalee in June. The emails referenced a specific UConn student athlete and players in some other college athletics programs, police said.
At the time, police said the emails did not warrant charges against Parmalee.
According to authorities, UConn employees, along with dozens of people throughout the United States who were not connected to UConn, continued receiving emails from Parmalee that were turned over to police.
Authorities did not release details about the specific content of the emails.
On Aug. 27, Parmalee was taken into custody in Windsor Locks on an unrelated arrest warrant in Oregon. Officials in Oregon moved to drop charges against Parmalee; however, UConn police issued a new arrest warrant and Parmalee was again taken into custody Friday.
Parmalee is being held on $100,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
